These are the available builds of JAGS for macOS. The vast majority of users will want to use one of the following two installers: - JAGS-4.3.2.pkg for compatibility with R version 4.3.0 and later - JAGS-4.3.1.pkg for compatibility with R versions 4.0.x to 4.2.x These are signed universal (x86_64 + arm64) package installers of JAGS versions 4.3.1 & 4.3.2 that have been built for binary compatability with the official macOS builds of R. Note that there is no difference between JAGS versions 4.3.1 and 4.3.2 other than the binary compatibility with different versions of R, so you should pick the version of JAGS that matches your version of R. If you do not use R then you can use either version (although note the minimum requirement of macOS 11 "Big Sur" for JAGS-4.3.2, compared to macOS 10.13 "High Sierra" for JAGS-4.3.1). For architecture-specific (unsigned) builds, as well as details of the build process used, see the extras folder. Note that version 4.x of JAGS requires version 4-x of the rjags package, and will not work with rjags version 3-x. You may need to re-install the rjags/runjags packages (in the usual way) after using this JAGS installer. If you encounter problems with installation of JAGS on macOS then please use the following JAGS discussion forum thread for help: https://sourceforge.net/p/mcmc-jags/discussion/610037/thread/115edca29d/ ****************************************************************** ***************** Binaries for legacy systems ******************* ****************************************************************** Previous builds of JAGS remain available via this page for those users that are on older versions of macOS / OS X (and/or versions of R before 4.0.0). All are 64-bit builds, linked against libc++ for compatibility with the Mavericks and El Capitan builds of the R packages rjags and runjags. However, the legacy installers are not signed, so you must disable Apple's protection mechanism using the following procedure: - Locate the ‘JAGS-4.x.x.mpkg’ file within the mounted disk image, then right-click (or control-click) on the file and select ‘Open’. - You will get a warning that the application is from an ‘unidentified developer’, and must click ‘open’ to accept this. All installers require a minimum of Mac OS X 10.9, but should also work with later versions of Mac OS X / macOS as indicated. Problems may be encountered with older installers on newer systems. NB: This version of the installer has an additional dependency on gfortran-4.2.3.pkg: https://cran.r-project.org/bin/macosx/tools/ MD5: cd5fe001e032b6fb4b7619417c835cef SHA1: a42e195de5a1d5e3fc83eb876343027d8b09b84c A readme file is provided in the disk image - please do read it. If you find that rjags fails to load after installation of JAGS, make sure you have installed the Mavericks or El Capitan binary of R from CRAN. If you really need the Snow Leopard build of R (or if you compiled R yourself) you will have to compile JAGS from source. If you have followed the instructions above (and in the relevant README file) and are still having problems with installation of these binaries, please let us know via the JAGS discussion forum at the dedicated macOS installation problems thread: https://sourceforge.net/p/mcmc-jags/discussion/610037/thread/115edca29d/ Last updated by Matt Denwood, 4th May 2022
